For the students of India, the Government of India has taken a new initiative. Just recently, it announced a new identity card for students. It is known as APAAR or ‘Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry’. Let’s find out more about this APAAR card and how it will benefit Indian students.
Firstly, for some context, the APAAR card could be considered similar to our Aadhaar Card, but this one is solely for students. So, this single card will hold all the educational details of students which includes their academic records from school to college levels. Each student will be allotted a unique 12-digit code. This number will enable the government to keep track of all that a student has done, and it will be made for students of all age groups. This includes those in school, junior college, degree college, and even post-graduation.

This is being done so that students’ APAAR ID can be linked directly with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). You must remember it from the news when the New Education Policy was launched. As per this government initiative, when students complete their course or even a singular semester, their generated credits are added to the Academic Bank of Credits. Now, the ABC is valid across all universities in India.
How will this help you? So, whenever a student wants to transfer from a particular school, college, or university, they don’t have to worry about losing out on their previous education or its validity as with the help of ABC these credits will get easily transferred.

You can view your APAAR ID on DigiLocker itself for future reference. It will be available as the ABC ID under the ‘Education’ section.
