Aakash tablet PC to feature Indian War Comics

Updated on 24-Jan-2012

The Aakash tablet will come pre-loaded with the digital version of the Indian War Comics (IWC), which was launched by Indian Army Chief VK Singh today. The IWC digital comics is based on Param Vir Chakra winner Bana Singh, Captain Vikram Batra and Mumbai 26/11 war hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan ‘Ashok Chakra’. According to VK Singh, the idea of digital comics based on Army heroes was aimed at encouraging and inspiring the children of the country. “I think these war comics are going to make a fantastic difference. Specially when they are loaded on to the Aakash tablet,” he stressed.

These digital version of comics will be available free of cost on the Aakash and its commercial version UbiSlate 7 tablets. “We will put these comics on both Aakash and Ubislate tablets,” Datawind CEO Sunit Singh Tuli confirmed.

The Aakash tablet, launched last year, is aimed at bridging the digital divide in the country. The commercial version of the Aakash tablet, UbiSlate 7, has seen a massive response from the public. However, the recent standoff between the government and DataWind has put the future of the Aakash tablet in jeopardy.

The government, which aims to have 22 crore Aakash tablets in near future, is unlikely to extend Letter of Credit to DataWind in view of series of faults pointed out by IIT Rajasthan. Also, DataWind has drawn the government ire for launching the device in open market before supplying to the government. Now eyes are set on the improved version of the Aakash tablet, presently dubbed as the Aakash 2, for which the government is soon going to float a new tender.
