Priced onward of Rs. 10.75 lac, the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo gets 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, and a lot of new, tiny elements.
Skoda has launched the Rapid Monte Carlo in India. The company first revealed its plans to launch the Rapid Monte Carlo, much of which is based on the trim that sells in the international market, earlier this month. The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is now open for bookings, and deliveries will begin in September. Prices for the Rapid Monte Carlo range between Rs. 10.75 lac and Rs. 13.57 lac.
Performance
The Skoda Rapid is being offered in both petrol and diesel variants, both with either five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearboxes. The 1.6 litre MPI petrol engine produces 105 horses, while the 1.5 litre TDI diesel produces a bit more power amounting to 110 horses. For both the engines, manual gear shift duties are handled by a five-speed transmission. In the petrol trim, the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo gets a six-speed tiptronic auto transmission, while the diesel retains the iconic seven-speed DSG.
What's new?
The 2017 Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is based on the top Style trim of the standard Rapid, and adds a host of aesthetic elements to make it a more premium offering in the C-segment sedan category in India. These new elements include a blackened front butterfly grille, blackened roof and ORVM claddings, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and blackened rear diffuser and a boot lip spoiler. The quartz-cut headlamps also get blackened finish.
The steering wheel has been redesigned to make it sportier – it is now a three-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel similar to what we will see in the upcoming Skoda Octavia RS. You also get steel brake/clutch/accelerator plates, instead of rubberised ones, and red-black stitched leatherette seats to add to the sportiness of the overall sedan. The Rapid now also has the Skoda Swing infotainment system – the base trim of Skoda's infotainment packages. The Swing system misses out on an integrated navigation system, but comes with Skoda's SmartLink firmware that is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. The technology package also includes rear parking sensors with rear view camera, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming electrochromic interior mirror, cruise control, and climate control.
Pricing and competition
The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is now available for bookings, and deliveries will begin from next month, in September. Prices are Rs. 10.75 lac for the petrol manual, Rs. 11.98 lac for the petrol auto, Rs. 12.46 lac for the diesel manual, and Rs. 13.58 lac for the diesel auto. The Rapid Monte Carlo's prime competition in the Indian C-segment sedan market are the 2017 Honda City, the new Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S.
