Gamers are worried about the next generation consoles being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising cost of the consoles due to scarcity in parts. But, it looks like Microsoft is on track with its upcoming console, the Xbox Series X. Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer was asked on Twitter, “Hi @XboxP3! How are you feeling about the eventual reveals of new games and new info on the Series X later this year. How is planning going? There are definitely a lot of hungry fans out here!” To which Phil replied, “Reviewed plans yesterday for continued sharing through launch. Team is doing great work and adapting. I've never been more excited about Xbox plans. We've heard you, you want transparency/authenticity. We plan to keep showing that way, next step is not too much of a wait (games)”
This means that we will get information about games for the new console soon. Even when E3 was cancelled, Microsoft was expected to hold an online event where it was speculated that the pricing and launch date for the Series X would be revealed. Other information circulating the internet suggests that this event could be in May 2020. Microsoft has confirmed that all its events for the next 1 year will be digital events only. So it will be interesting to see the information the brand shares about the console.
Before the pandemic, Microsoft revealed the specifications of the Series X and you can check them out in detail here.
Sony, on the other hand, had a wrench thrown into its plans of revealing information about the PS5 due to the Coronavirus. It held a GDC like talk to highlight the specifications of the PS5 and revealed the details about the new DualSense controller via a blog to prevent anyone from leaking the new controller. We are still waiting on the details of the PS5 such as the design of the box, games, launch details, and more. You can check out our comparison between the PS5 and Xbox Series X here.
The Coronavirus has also delayed Sony’s most anticipated game of the year, The Last of Us Part 2. You can read more about that here.
In other Xbox news, the Xbox One X will get its last official custom console in the form of a Cyberpunk 2077 console. You can take a look at all the details of that console here.
