Sony valiantly but rather foolhardily tried to caulk the sinking ship with the 3.56 security firmware update, which was cracked and jailbroken less than a day later by Youness Alaoui of Wii hacking fame.
The latest custom firmware will apparently become available soon, and will also re-enable PSN access, managing to bypass the new random encryption key that the 3.56 security update heroically introduced.
Those already on custom 3.55 firmware might want to wait a bit before they try the 3.56 update and crack, just in case 3.57 is around the corner.
