Sony PSP2 further delayed by Nvidia Tegra 2 issues
Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor is known for its power consumption issues – it’s the reason the Notion Ink Adam, and countless other products have been delayed this year. Now, a leak by an Nvidia engineer claims that the Tegra 2 is once again the reason for a product delay, and this time it’s the Sony PSP2.
The PSP2 has been expected for a while now, but no official Sony comments have been made about just when it is due. Apparently, Sony is quite unhappy with Nvidia for not delivering on its promised power budget or squeezing in within an acceptable 5% margin. Instead, according to the Nvidia engineer, the Tegra 2 is more than 20% over budget. There go the rumours of a PSP2 Sony Ericsson phone…
Sony’s possible way out is unknown – will it wait for a custom Tegra 2 to be made that meets its PSP2 requirements, or will it downgrade the PSP2’s specifications to allow for a decent battery life? Whatever the decision, the PSP2’s launch looks like it will happen no sooner than CES 2011, with its release shortly after.
