Players can go ahead and register for pre-order and reserve a unit later this month. Here is everything you should know about the PlayStation VR2 headset.
PlayStation VR2 release date and price
On the PlayStation blog, Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President, Hardware and Peripherals at Sony Interactive Entertainment, says, "I'm very pleased to announce that PlayStation VR2 is officially launching on February 22, 2023." Adding to it, Tomatis mentions, "PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller, will also launch the same day."
Interested customers in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg can pre-order the PlayStation CR2 from November 15, 2022, via PlayStation's online store. To recall, the original PlayStation VR headset came out at $400 in 2016. In comparison, PlayStation VR2 is priced slightly higher at $549.99.
However, the price includes a PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense Controllers (two) and stereo headphones. The PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle will cost $599.99: it includes a PlayStation Store voucher code for Horizon Call of the Mountain, a PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and stereo headphones.
PlayStation VR2 and Sense Controller specifications
To begin with, the PlayStation VR2 has an OLED display with a panel resolution of 2000 x 24000 per eye and a refresh rate of 90/120Hz. The field of view that PS VR2 provides is approximately 110 degrees. In terms of sensors, the device is loaded with a six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope and three-axis accelerometer), along with an IR proximity sensor.
The PS VR2 also has four headset and controller tracking cameras and an IR camera for tracking eye movements. There is a built-in microphone and stereo headphone jack. The VR headset connects to PS5 with a USB Type-C port.
The PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller is an equally advanced piece of technology. It has multiple buttons for taking user input, a six-axis motion sensor like the PS VR2 headset and a capacitive sensor for sensing finger touch.
The controller also has a USB Type-C port and connects to PS5 via Bluetooth v5.1. "We're expecting more than 20 titles at launch, and we can't wait for February when PS VR2 launches so players can try it. We'll have more details on our launch game lineup in the future, so stay tuned," says Tomatis.
