The playoffs of the Skyesports Championship 2024 are here. After three days of intense Counter-Strike action, we have the teams that will be locking horns to get their hands on the gorgeous trophy and the $120,000 prize. On the last day of the group stages, we had some team’s hopes soaring high in the clouds, while others had their bags packed and departed for de_airport. Let’s have a look at how the action unfolded on the last day of the Group Stage of the Skyesports Championship 2024 –
Table toppers of their respective groups, Eternal Fire and Aurora, secured a spot in semis. Coming into the last day of the tournament, both teams had three wins each to their name as they romped past all the opponents that came their way; well, for the most part, they did. They continued their run of form on Day 3 as well.
Eternal Fire faced off against 3DMAX in their matchup for the day, another team that had shown steaming hot form in the three games that they had played. However, the Turks put up an insurmountable challenge for the French squad on Anubis. Both the teams fought hard, and the match went on over time, but when the dust settled, 3DMAX managed to win only 14 rounds compared to the 16 won by Eternal Fire. Rising to the occasion for Eternal Fire as they secured their semis spot was Özgür ‘woxic’ Eker, with an HLTV rating of 1.40.
Thanks to their run during the group stages, with three wins under their belt, 3DMAX, despite losing their encounter against Eternal Fire on Day 3 of the Skyesports Championship 2024, were able to make the cut, and will be playing in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The road for Aurora, however, was a bit shaky. The Russian squad was matched up against The MongolZ, who everyone touted to be a force to be reckoned with. And they showed exactly why. The Mongolian team put up a formidable display of their skills on Ancient and conceded only 4 rounds, winning 13 rounds to clinch the game and secure their berth in the bus to the playoffs.
Riding on the back of their IGL, ENCE won their game against True Rippers. The Indian squad, who had the support of a billion people behind them, could not give the home fans a lot to cheer for, as they lost 13-5 against ENCE, making it their 5th loss on the trot before crashing out of the tournament. ENCE, who had a relatively shaky tournament, winning three out of their five games, made the cut, hanging on to the last straw that they could find.
AMKAL were the last team to make the cut for the playoffs. They faced off against DMS, another team joining the True Rippers on their way to de_airport, as they managed to win only 1 out of their four matches during the tourney. AMKAL managed to scrape past their opponents in the decider, as they clinched a crucial victory on de_dust2, mainly thanks to the heroics of Aleksandr ‘TRAVIS’ Timkiv.
