Skyesports Championship 2024: Aurora, Eternal Fire and 3DMAX on a roll; True Rippers struggling to carry hopes of home fans

On Day 3 of the Skyesports Championship 2024, there were a few surprises and a few upsets, one pretty big one for the Indian fans. Aurora, Eternal Fire, and 3DMAX, continued their striking run of form and won their third game in a row, while the home town favourites, True Rippers could not bag a win, plonking to the bottom of their group’s points table. There was plenty of other exciting CS2 action that took place on Day 3 of the Skyesports Championship 2024, which had the fans on their feet. Let’s have a look at how it unfolded –

Aurora, Eternal Fire, and 3DMAX on a roll

The day started with table toppers 3DMAX taking on DMS on Inferno. The French squad which has been around for some time in the Counter-Strike scene, showed why they were one of the most talked about teams in the lead-up to this tournament. They scored an easy win over DMS, who by the end of the first half had been able to get only 2 rounds and succumbed after ceding three rounds in the second half to 3DMAX.

In parallel, we had Aurora taking on ENCE, who had come into this tournament with a lot of promise. The traditionally Polish squad that is now fielding an international roster fought hard against the Russian underdogs, Aurora, dragging their game on Ancient into overtime. However, the star-studded lineup of ENCE, comprising of big-ticket names like gla1ve and sdy, couldn’t hold up against the raw firepower of Aurora, who clinched the game 16-14. This game again would have reminded the OG fans of the days of CS:GO when we had to win 16 rounds to seal the deal.

The MongolZ bleed out their second loss in their match-up against BLEED

A surprise awaited the Asian CS fans when The MongolZ, who had come into the Skyesports Championship 2024, showed up fairly underhanded in their game against BLEED. The first half of the game that was being played on Mirage showed some promise, but in the second half, the Asian squad, touted by many to win the tournament, could not keep up with BLEED, who sailed home with a 13-11 win.

Eternal Fire, the Turkish squad that packs one of the best line-ups when it comes to its raw mechanical skills in the game, led by Ismailcan ‘XANTARES’ Dörtkardeş, proved their mettle once again when they faced off against AMKAL. The CIS squad was of no match to the Turks as the current tournament favourites, Eternal Fire, blazed past AMKAL to an easy peasy 13-5 victory.

French flag flys high at Skyesports Championship 2024; Redemption for ENCE

If there was ever a clean sweep displaying the prowess of a team in their truest form, the 13-0 sweep of 3DMAX over the fairly decked-out squad of Revenant would be it. The French squad came in all guns blazing on Nuke and swept the floor with the relatively newly found roster of Revenant, led by CS veteran NBK-.

All stars but no hope :- (

ENCE’s graph in this tournament has been like a sine wave. They win a game, lose the next, and the cycle goes on. Don’t believe me? Well, after being handed a defeat in their first game of the day against Aurora, the gla1ve-led team faced off against PARIVISION and secured a 13-7 win in their match on Dust2. Interestingly, this was the first instance of D2 being played in the tournament, which is carrying the latest CT short boost update, which came out recently.

A dismal day of Counter-Strike for the Indian roster, True Rippers came to an end as they lost their third game on the trot, when they faced off against Aurora in the last game of the day. The teams took to Ancient, and the result was very underwhelming for the Indian flag bearers as they lost 11 rounds in the first half and come the end of the game, they were able to manage only 5 round wins over Aurora who went back home smiling.

On the last day of the group stages, before I fly out to report about the playoffs from the ground, we have plenty of games still in store, with the teams looking to lock out their playoff berth. 3DMAX, Aurora, and Eternal Fire, who have put up an excellent display of CS2 performance, are looking to be the first teams to board the flight to the playoffs, while True Rippers and Revenant look bound to de_airport.
