Ransomware disguised as Cyberpunk 2077 Mobile hitting the market
Ransomware masquerading as a Mobile version of the Game Cyberpunk 2077 is live.
Researchers at Kaspersky discovered the malware.
The ransomware uses a hardcoded key.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the news a lot since launch and not all of it is good news. The game has seen a buggy launch and gamers have asked for a refund. The game has also been pulled from the PlayStation Store. While the game is available on virtually every platform, to play it on your portable device (mobile/tablet) you would need a service like Stadia as CD Projekt Red has not yet made a ‘mobile version’ of the game. If you see a mobile version of the game making rounds, you may want to stay clear of it.
As reported by TechRadar there is a fake website with a layout of the Google Play Store offering a “mobile version of Cyberpunk 2077”.
Kaspersky malware analyst “Tatyana Shishkova,” says instead of installing a pocket version of the game it installs ransomware on the unsuspecting victim’s phone. The ransomware dubbed as CoderWare demands the victim to send $500 Bitcoins within 10 hours or there is a risk of all the files being deleted.

Thankfully the ransomware has a hardcoded key, meaning users can decrypt the files without paying the ransom. You can check out some of the free ransomware removal tools here. There is even a Windows version of the CoderWare ransomware which is a modified version of BlackKingdom malware seen in early 2020 in some free VPN installers.
CD Projekt Red has released a port for The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch but there is no word for any port or mod for a mobile version of Cyberpunk 2077. The game is currently available on Xbox, PlayStation (physical copies only), and PC. If you wish to play it on your mobile devices it is currently available on Google’s streaming service Stadia. Users that have the game on Xbox or PlayStation can use the remote play functionality of the 2 consoles to stream the game to their mobile devices.
