PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds a.k.a PUBG was launched across a lot of platforms. To make it more accessible, a couple of toned-down versions of the game were released for both PC and mobile phones. By the end of this month, one of those entries will no longer be available. Yes, PUBG Lite, a version of the game made for lower-end PCs and laptops will be shutting down this month.
The same has been confirmed by the game's publisher Krafton on its official website. In its note, Krafton games, without giving any impending reasons, said the game will no longer be available to download starting March 30 and the service of PUBG Lit is scheduled to end on April 29, 2021.
Here's what Krafton said – "We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG LITE fans that have been with us. During the strenuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG LITE was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe. Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that the service of PUBG LITE is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021 (UTC)."
It's rather surprising because PUBG Lite started off well and it was widely popular. The game's publisher even made it completely free-to-play by ditching the in-game currency back in November last year. But it looks like there weren't too many takers for this game after all.
PUBG Lite, for those of you who don't know, was launched in beta in January 2019 in Thailand. It was well-received in the community and Krafton was praised for its efforts to make the game more accessible. PUBG Lite worked flawlessly even on relatively low-end PCs, allowing more people to hop in and get that "Chicken Dinner!"
According to Krafton, the game is no longer available to download for new users. Existing players can continue playing it till April 29th, 2021 05:00 (UTC). The player support for PUBG Lite will officially end on May 29th, 2021 (UTC). It's worth pointing out that PUBG Mobile Lite is a different game and this doesn't affect the mobile version of the game.
