PSN and Qriocity to be fully restored by the end of the week

Updated on 31-May-2011

Sony announced today that it will fully restore all PlayStation Network services by the end of this week, in select territories – Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia. Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and other territories are excluded from this, and details will be announced by Sony “as they become available.”

Sony had given itself a May 31 deadline two weeks ago, when it began partial restoration of services with Europe and the Americas, and started Japan and Asian territories on May 28. The partial restoration brought services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality back online. It’s been an uphill struggle for Sony ever since the first attacks in April, suffering a lot of negative publicity, and not a few new cyberattacks and newly exposed vulnerabilities, forcing it to interrupt services intermittently to patch up.

Full restoration will bring the following additional services:

  • Full functionality on PlayStation Store
    • In-game commerce
    • Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
  • Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PCs
  • Full functionality on Media Go

A “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content invites registered users back once they logon to their PlayStation Network and Qriocity account services. More details will be available in each region.
