It's not just in India, gamers across the globe are finding it hard to get their hands on a PS5 (review). While scalpers are to blame for the problem, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has highlighted why it is so difficult for you to get your hands on a PS5. In an interview with the Washington Post, Ryan says that he is “very sorry” most people haven't been able to get their hands on a console. One of the reasons for the shortage of the console is the ongoing pandemic.
Ryan goes on to say, “Demand was greater than we anticipated. Along with the complexities of the supply chain issues, resulted in a slightly lower supply than we initially anticipated.” He also highlights that production of the PS5 is ramping up steadily. Even though the PS5 may be in short supply for the foreseeable future, it looks like we could see some availability for the PS5 in March in India.
The PS5 isn't the only next gen console facing stock issues. Earlier this month Microsoft confirmed that the next generation Xbox, the Series X (review) would be in short supply all through June. Microsoft's head of investor relations, Mike Spencer said that supply is going to be an issue until July. You can learn more about the shortage of Xbox Series X here.
Sony and Microsoft both launched their next gen consoles globally towards the end of 2020 and while Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X and S in India at the same time as the rest of the world, Sony was a little late to the party launching the console in Feb 2021.
