After a really long wait, Sony has finally unveiled the latest PlayStation 5 Pro. The device will launch on November 7th and will start at $700. There’s still time before the launch but the announcement itself has stirred controversy online. Sony says that the new console has a more powerful GPU, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling, but lacks a built-in disc drive. And it is more expensive too. Should you then upgrade to the PS5 Pro? Let’s find out.
So, the key advancement that the Pro will see is the upgraded GPU. It promises 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, resulting in 45% faster rendering. You even get a smoother 4K gameplay at 60 fps or higher gameplay. The CPU and storage speeds remain unchanged.
In addition to this, there’s a new PSSR feature. It is an AI-powered feature and is similar to Nvidia’s DLSS. It helps maintain high frame rates without compromising resolution. You even get advanced ray tracing that brings more dynamic lighting and reflections.
On the design front, the PS5 Pro is taller and slimmer with a finned side panel. The main issue is that it lacks a built-in disc drive, which must be purchased separately for $79.99. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and promises faster downloads.
