Nintendo has confirmed that 300,000 accounts were hacked

Nintendo has asked users to reset their passwords

The company sent out alerts and emails when it was found that accounts had been hacked.

As we reported earlier, it looks like a lot of Nintendo accounts were hacked back in April. Well, according to a report on Business Insider, around 300,000 accounts have been hacked. This applies to users who have a Nintendo Switch, 3DS or even a Wii U. The Japanese video game giant did announce the news in April but we know how many people were affected by the hack. At the time, Nintendo released a statement saying, “This time, login IDs and password information were obtained illegally by some means other than our service, a phenomenon that seems to have been made by impersonating login to Nintendo Network ID (NNID) from around the beginning of April. We also confirm that there was an illegal login to some ‘Nintendo accounts’ via NNID using this impersonation login.”

Nintendo has also asked users to reset their passwords, just in case. As we all know, Nintendo does not have much of a presence in India but the company is slowly gaining in popularity here with the Switch and Switch Lite appealing to a whole generation of new gamers. So, do check if you’ve received an email from Nintendo informing you that your account has been hacked. A sample of the email can be seen below.

Nintendo has also asked users to think about resetting their passwords in a statement. “As a further precaution, we will soon contact users about resetting passwords for Nintendo Network IDs and Nintendo Accounts that we have reason to believe were accessed without authorization”. You can read more about the statement on Nintendo’s Support Page, here

In other Nintendo news, the Japanese company, along with Sony, Microsoft and more plan online presentations after E3 cancellation. You can read more about that story here. Also, if you're looking for a reason to pick up the Switch, you can check out this article, right here
