In a press release from Sony Computer Entertainment’s Japan office, the motion controller for PlayStation 3 got a release date of Fall/Autumn (September- December) this year. The motion controller still does not have an official name yet; however rumors are circulating the web that it may be called the Ark. The new controller will be released simultaneously in Japan, North America and PAL territories.
Without giving any specific details, Kaz Hirai mentioned that the controller will release alongside a “comprehensive” collection of games that will support the new controller. To function, the controller will also require an additional peripheral—the PlayStation Eye camera which was released as a bundle with Eye of Judgment in 2007. This sounds eerily similar to something Sony has tried on PlayStation 2 with Eye Toy Play Hero. Sony’s next foray into motion control with the Six Axis does little to instill excitement about their newest tryst in this field. It looks like we will have to wait at least till September this year to see if third time is a charm for Sony.
