Microsoft launches cross-platform and multiplayer ‘Skulls of the Shogun’ game
Microsoft has announced a game, Skulls of the Shogun, which can be played on all Microsoft platforms - the Xbox 360, Windows PC, Surface and Windows Phone.
Microsoft has officially launched the first gaming title specifically designed to be played across all four of Microsoft’s platforms – Windows Phone, Windows 8 PC, Surface, and Xbox 360.
Skulls of the Shogun is a multiplayer mash up combining arcade-style fighting with turn-based strategy—plus visuals inspired by 1960s-era Japanese anime thrown in for good measure. The game—the first Microsoft title designed to be paused on one device, and picked up and played on another—works with any combination of supported hardware. The game supports up to 4-player in multiplayer mode.

For a limited time, gamers can pick up Skulls at a discount. The Windows 8 version costs $9.99 (normally $14.99), while the Windows Phone version is $4.99 (normally $6.99). The Xbox LIVE edition is available for 1200 Microsoft Points.

You can start playing the game on your Xbox at home, pause it and pick up right where you left it on your way to work on your Windows Phone device or Surface tablet. We have seen the same thing from Sony as well. Some games are available for the PS3 as well as the Vita. You can start a game on your PS3 and pick up right where you left off on the Vita. It is an interesting mechanic and if the implementation has already begun, we can assume that this will be an inbuilt core feature of the next generation home consoles.
