Hideo Kojima confirms Metal Gear Solid 5, based on the Fox Engine

Metal Gear Solid (MGS) fans rejoice! We knew that MGS 5 was in the works but now we have confirmed details from the creator of the franchise himself, Hideo Kojima. The game will be developed using the Fox Engine according to an interview conducted by French magazine IG. Hideo Kojima also hinted at the possibility of Solid Snake being in the game.

At this point we do not know how far the project has reached in the development stage. Also, with the fact that the next generation consoles are expected to launch in a year or two, it isn’t clear if the game will be a launch title for the next generation systems.

Also, the game will drift away from its stealth action to a more interactive gameplay approach just like the one we have seen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

In the interview, Kojima said, “We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.” Also, it is expected that the game will be set during the invasion of Normandy.

Kojima goes on to say, “I had several ideas for a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy. I then handed these plans over to the team so they could take over and make the game. I presented my ideas to the team during the summer of 2008. However, simply dropping MGS5 on the younger staff members was a bit heavy and there was resistance to doing it without my involvement.”

Metal Gear Solid has been one of gaming’s longest running franchises. The first MGS game debuted on the Famicom and the series has gone on to make a place for itself on the PS1, PS2 and the PS3.

The next game in the MGS franchise will star Raiden as the lead protagonist and is expected to hit store shelves in 2013. The game is titled Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and will be available for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
