Qualcomm has announced its 2025 Snapdragon G Series Gaming Platforms at the Game Developers Conference 2025 this week. In the wake of intense competition in the portable gaming device market, the new lineup includes the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, and Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, engineered to power different segments of the handheld gaming market.
The high-end Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 offers support for Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen lighting system on Android gaming handhelds. According to Qualcomm, the G3 Gen 3 offers 30% faster CPU performance and 28% better graphics capabilities compared to its predecessor. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 technology for reducing latency and improving bandwidth.
For the mid-range segment, the G2 Gen 2 claims to deliver gaming experiences at 144 frames per second with what Qualcomm describes as a 2.3x CPU performance increase and 3.8x GPU improvement over the previous generation.
The entry-level G1 Gen 2 is designed primarily for cloud gaming at 1080p resolution and 120 frames per second. Qualcomm states this model provides 80% faster CPU and 25% faster GPU performance for cloud-based gaming.
Qualcomm has confirmed that several manufacturers including AYANEO, ONEXSUGAR, and Retroid Pocket plan to release devices using these new chipsets starting in the first quarter of 2025.
