Fortnite will be released on Android this summer

Maker of popular games like Gears of War, Infinity Blade, and the timeless Unreal Tournament, Epic Games, has recently announced that it will launch its newest co-op survival game Fortnite on Android this summer. After enjoying considerable success on iOS (introduced through an invite-only beta period) and other mainstream gaming platforms like PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 for some time now, the free-to-play apocalyptic survival video game is finally making its way to more gamers.

In a recent news post, Epic Games revealed a list of improvements it plans to bring to the video game. Amongst the big news of its Android release were additions like a 'Customizable HUD' while playing the game and a simple-to-use voice chat option to communicate with other players. The game maker was proud to announce that the voice chat option would work across all the platforms the game is available on.

Epic Games is also on a quest to improve the mobile gaming experience in general. With an aim of reducing the installation size of the game and bettering the update experience, the game maker stated in the news post, “We are aware of the large installation size of Fortnite on mobile and are working to reduce that size. Over the next few updates we’ll be compressing the size down while maintaining performance. We’ll be making overall patch sizes smaller and adding the ability to download the content in the background!”

Lastly, Epic Games is adding a ‘Battery-Saver’ mode to the game, which will allow players to lower the graphic quality in the game, thereby conserving the phone’s battery until the end of the game. It is unclear at the moment whether these improvements are intended for the already existing iOS platform or for Android as well, but we will know more soon as the summer wears on.
