First look: Nintendo 3DS super-charged by DMP’s Pica200 GPU
Finally, the word is out that the Nintendo 3DS is reportedly powered by the Digital Media Professional’s (DMP) Pica200 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). It is said that the graphics rendering, including the T & L (transform and lighting), texture processing and anti-aliasing, among a host of other post-processing effects, are dynamically controlled by the Pica200 GPU. However, the build of the CPU or the technology behind the GPU is not yet revealed. The other noticeable factor is the ultra-high polygon rendering rate, adding up to 15.3 million polygons per second at a native clock speed of 200MHz.
A video has been shot depicting the graphics performance of the chip in full 3D glory. Our first impressions on the video looked very promising and hope you too might like it.
