F.3.A.R, or F.E.A.R 3 as it is called in the official press release, has got a tentative release date of Fall 2010, as announced by publisher Warner Bros, who had other interesting news to be shared about the title.
The third iteration of the classic horror first person shooter will not be developed by Monolith Productions, the developer who made the first two immensely popular games. It will instead be made by Day One Studios, who previously brought us MechAssault, MechAssualt 2, and Fracture.
If you were worried about whether the tangible horror of the previous two games would be carried through to the new title even when developers have changed, you will be reassured by the fact that at least some horror will be there, as two experienced horror experts have been hired as consultants – the legendary John Carpenter, and the writer of 30 Days of Night, Steve Niles.
Day One Studios Founder & President, Denny Thorley, had this to say about the new game: “After working closely with Monolith, Day One is honored to bring the next iteration of the F.E.A.R. franchise to gamers with key elements of the past games yet providing fresh combat and horror experiences in F.E.A.R. 3….Players can look forward to new features such as divergent co-op, an evolved cover system, and more scares in F.E.A.R. 3.”
Let us all hope F.E.A.R 3 will live up to its genre-defining predecessors.
