EA and FIFA agree upon a licensing deal till 2022, which will give EA exclusive rights to release FIFA branded video-games.

EA has bagged yet another licensing deal with FIFA (Federation of International Football Association), the global governing body for football, extending it until 2022.

The contract would mean that EA Sports will have exclusive rights to develop their hugely-popular FIFA series till 2022, furthermore it will give EA official rights to the FIFA brand name. The newly signed agreement is valid till December 31 in 2022.

FIFA is a game that has generated huge revenue for both EA and the football governing body over the past years. Recent figures reveal that EA sold around 6.42 million copies of the FIFA 13 since it’s unveiling last September, which is way more than it’s rival franchise Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 which had global sales of 1.15 million.

“Our franchise has become the benchmark for quality and innovation in the sports video-game genre, and we look forward to many more years of connecting with consumers around the world with our games carrying the prestigious FIFA name.” said, Andrew Wilson, the executive vice president and head of EA Sports.

“FIFA believes that the video game has helped propagate the game to more people across the globe,” said FIFA’s secretary general, who added, “The FIFA video-games are a key experiential component in our work to communicate the FIFA brand and its values all over the world.”

Fans of the wildly popular franchise can now carry on playing their latest versions of their beloved footy game at least till 2022, the year in which Qatar is going to host the FIFA World Cup.
