The popular multiplayer FPS game, Counter Strike: Global Offensive is now free to play. On top of this, the developers also announced a new battle royale-esq game mode called Danger Zone that has been added to the game. The developers note that those who already purchased the game will automatically be upgraded to Prime Status and will also receive a commemorative Loyalty Badge, which can be displayed on the player’s profile. Further, Prime Status will also give players access to the new Souvenir MP5-SD | Lab Rats weapon skin as well as the Danger Zone Case. The case features features 17 community-designed weapon finishes, and the Horizon knives as rare special items.
The Danger Zone gameplay will see matches of up to 18 players playing solo, duo, in a trio. Players will drop into the ‘Blacksite’ and find equipment, money and call in deliveries. Every match features a set of pistols, rifles, SMGs and heavy weapons from CS:GO's arsenal.
When playing solo, the match will consist of 16 players. If the players queues for a squad or two or three, the match will have 18 players. SInce the total player count is low, matches typically last around 10 minutes. Players can earn XP in Danger Zone by looting your environment, killing enemies and trying your best to survive.
The move to make CS:Go free and introduce a battle royale mode should make the game more competitive against the market that is currently dominated by games such as PUBG, Fortnite and COD: Black Ops 4.
