AMD has unveiled the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card at CES 2024. The card comes close to nine months after the RX 7600 was announced. The key difference is that the 7600 XT packs a massive 16 GB of GDDR6 memory buffer whereas the Radeon 7600 only features an 8 GB VRAM. AMD is positioning the Radeon 7600 XT as an upgrade for folks still on the RTX 2060 or older graphics card which is more than 50 per cent of the PC gamers, as per the November 2023 Steam Hardware Survey. The large VRAM is also useful for running AI models locally.
The launch of the Radeon 7600 and even the NVIDIA RTX 4060 did cause a bit of a hullabaloo since both companies had a lot of marketing materials for their flagship cards which pegged low frame buffer cards as insufficient. And then both companies launched the exact thing that they were advocating against. Thankfully, that gets remedied with this launch. The Radeon RX 7600 XT comes with 16 GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory, a specification that underlines its capability to handle next-generation AI and content creation workloads. In gaming, the card supports advanced technologies like AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) and AMD HYPR-RX with AMD Fluid Motion Frames, enabling users to experience immersive and responsive gaming at resolutions up to 1440p.
“Discerning gamers around the world are looking for a simple goal of smooth lag-free gameplay at affordable prices to enjoy the most of their gaming experience. Today, the Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card delivers on that goal,” said Jack Huynh, senior vice president and GM, Computing and Graphics Group at AMD.
The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT has the same core configuration as the 7600 with 32 Compute Units, 64 AI accelerators, and 32 MB of Infinity Cache with a 128-bit memory interface. The net memory speed also remains unchanged at 18 Gbps. Aside from the obvious improvement of having more memory, it also features a slightly higher base and boost clock speeds. All these changes have also led to a higher Total Board Power (TBP) of 190 Watts. Partner cards might feature higher TBP because of additional fans and higher clock speeds.
Model | Compute Units | AI Accelerators | GDDR6 | Game Clock (GHz) | Boost Clock (GHZ) | Memory Interface | Infinity Cache | TBP | Price (USD SEP) |
AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT | 32 | 64 | 16GB | 2.47 GHz | Up to 2.76 GHz | 128-bit | 32 MB | Starting at 190W | $329 |
The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card is expected to be available from January 24, 2024, with an SEP of USD 329. This translates to a little over INR 32,000 with taxes included. It will be offered by AMD board partners like Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, and XFX. Additionally, new AMD Advantage-certified systems are anticipated to be available in the coming months from leading OEM/SIs.
