Turkish 3D artist Mert Mimaroglu has created a Crysis mod featuring the time-traveling DeLorean car from the Back to the Future movies. The mod allows players to jump few hours in time when the car crosses that significant 88 miles per hour mark.
The great thing about this mod is not only the warm nostalgic feelings that it evokes, but also the attention to detail in the car’s model. The car is a near perfect replica of the iconic car, complete with external engine parts and neon cables running across the rear half of the car. Externally, the details are just as amazing– the car gets covered in frost after exiting the time-rift, the tires leave trail of fire and the ‘time circuit’ creates electric arcs in front of the car. Using the car to time travel sets in the in-game time ahead by a few hours, complete with shifting position of the sun. The mod comes with the ability to toggle the ‘time-circuit’, so effectively you could drive the car beyond the 88 mph mark and not travel in the future. The demo video [embedded below] showcases another cool feature of this mod– you can bail out of the car just before it hits the required speed limit. By doing this, you can send the car in to the future while you remain the present– then you can remotely recall your car to the present time.
The mod is available for download from Crytek’s official modding portal (Crymod) and it is reportedly playable in both Crysis and Crysis Wars. For those who are interested in details on how the mod was created, you can head to the artist’s blog or directly head to the discussion thread.
