Game Awards 2024 finally concluded with some amazing announcements. One of the major announcements was AstroBot clinched the prestigious Game of the Year award, outshining some popular titles like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Black Myth Wukong.

For the unversed, Astro Bot is a PlayStation 5 exclusive game developed by Team Asobi. The game is a 3D platformer where the player controls the main character (Astro Bot) with the Dual Sense controller. The game was praise for the rich storytelling, imaginative gameplay along with great use of haptics and adaptive triggers on the controller.

Along with the Game of the Year award, the AstroBot also bagged Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Family Game titles during the awards.

A poker style game known as Balatro won the Best Debut Indie, Best Independent Game and Best Mobile Game during the Game Awards 2024. The award night also witnessed some big announcements including the Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op spinoff to the 2022 hit.

Metaphor: ReFantazio won the Best Narrative and Best Art Direction awards. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won Best Score and Music, while Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 won Best Audio Design. Melina Juergens won best performance for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, while Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown won best Innovation in Accessibility titles.

Meanwhile, GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto 6) was the most anticipated game of the year. Rockstar Games announced that the game will be released early next year. Interestingly, Rockstar Games promised several trailers but only delivered one in a year. The exact release date, plot, and storyline are still unknown. Perhaps a new trailer will provide more clarity soon.
