3DS suffering from ‘black screen of death’; Nintendo recommends firmware update

Things aren’t looking too good for Nintendo, with several users on numerous forums reporting that their brand new 3DS portable consoles are suffering from repeated crashes, which they’ve christened the ‘black screen of death.’

[RELATED_ARTICLE]Seen above, the black screen of death is not as permanent as it sounds, rather, it is an error message containing instructions to restart the console. This apparently resolves the issue for some users, but is not the case for many others, who still suffer from crashes during games, and even when simply navigating through the menu. Some users have resolved the problem by reformatting their SD cards to the FAT32 file system, but this again, is not a sure fire solution for all users with the problem.

Nintendo has responded to claims with this message:

“If anyone is experiencing any problems with their Nintendo 3DS console, we recommend that in the first instance they download and install the latest system update, now available online. If the problems still persist we recommend they contact their local Nintendo Customer Service centre to investigate the problem further.”
