HIGHLIGHTS

The Xiaomi Mi Pocket Speaker 2 has a petite footprint and a 5W Tymphany-made speaker driver. The speaker is priced at Rs 1,499.

Accompanying the Mi Bluetooth Speaker Basic 2 is the new smaller Mi Pocket Speaker 2 by Xiaomi. The Chinese electronics company has been known to make a fairly-elaborate list of peripheral devices like earphones, power banks, air purifiers, and Wi-Fi routers along with an equally-elaborate list of Mi and Redmi smartphones. Now it’s introducing a new portable Bluetooth speaker in India.

Measuring 3.6 inches vertically and 2.3 inches horizontally, the new Mi Pocket Speaker 2 certainly lives up to its name. The lower part of its body is made of a combination of ABS and polycarbonate, while the adjustable volume ring on top is made of anodised aluminium. An LED indicator is present on the lower half of the speaker.

The 5W speaker driver is manufactured by Tymphany, a German audio engineering company. The little wireless speaker supports Bluetooth 4.1, which is a little disappointing to note because Bluetooth 5 is the current standard, and it comes with more audio-focussed features. The inbuilt battery is a 1200mAh unit, which Xiaomi claims is good for up to 7 hours of continuous music playback. It also has an inbuilt microphone for handling phone calls.

In Xiaomi’s portable speaker stable, the new Mi Pocket Speaker 2 sits alongside the more expensive Mi Bluetooth Speaker Basic 2, which is larger, supports two 2.5W speaker units, Bluetooth 4.2, and claims up to 10 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge.

On the Xiaomi website for India, the Mi Pocket Speaker 2 is available for sale at Rs 1,499. It comes in two colours: black and white.
