Apple is bringing a big upgrade to the AirPods Max next month. A new software update will add lossless audio and ultra-low latency support to these headphones. According to the tech giant, this will offer the “ultimate listening experience and even greater performance for music production.”
With the upcoming update, AirPods Max will support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio. Apple Music subscribers will be able to listen to more than 100 million songs in lossless quality.
The update is also great news for music creators. Lossless audio and ultra-low latency support will allow artists to fully utilise AirPods Max throughout their entire professional workflow on Logic Pro and other music creation apps, according to Apple.

One unique feature is that AirPods Max will be the only headphones that let musicians create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking using a USB-C connection.
Gamers and livestreamers will also benefit from ultra-low latency audio, which reduces sound delays. “Gamers and livestreamers can also benefit from ultra-low latency audio, which significantly lowers lag time, and is on par with the native built-in speakers on Mac, iPad, and iPhone. With no response delay, gameplay and livestreaming become reliably smooth and even more immersive for users,” Apple said in a blogpost.
