There’s a lot of buzz in the tech world as Apple gears up for its big fall event, with the iPhone 16 set to take centre stage. However, another eagerly awaited product is likely to make an appearance—the AirPods Max 2. Here’s a look at what’s expected from these next-gen headphones.
The AirPods Max 2 headphones are expected to feature a significant upgrade under the hood—a new chip, possibly the H2 chip found in the current AirPods Pro 2, 9To5Mac reported. This chip will likely bring several powerful audio features to the AirPods Max 2, which are currently available only on the Pro line.
These include Adaptive Audio, which adjusts Transparency and Noise Cancellation modes based on your environment, and Conversation Awareness, which lowers the volume and isolates voices when it detects someone speaking.
With iOS 18, more features will likely be added, such as the ability to nod or shake your head to respond to Siri, Voice Isolation during calls, and enhancements to Personalized Spatial Audio for gaming with dynamic head tracking. These upgrades will make a noticeable difference, giving AirPods Max users several compelling reasons to upgrade.

Another significant change is the switch to USB-C charging. Apple has been gradually moving all its products to this universal port standard, and the AirPods Max 2 is expected to follow suit.
The AirPods Max 2 is expected to be available in new colour options. While the current models are available in five shades—Space Gray, Pink, Green, Silver, and Sky Blue—the AirPods Max 2 might introduce some popular colours like Midnight and Starlight.
While this is mostly speculation, there’s a chance that Apple might introduce a new case design for the AirPods Max 2. The original Smart Case received mixed reviews, with many users hoping for a more protective option. Although there hasn’t been any solid information about this, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple offers a sturdier case as an optional accessory, allowing owners of the AirPods Max to upgrade as well.
