YouTube Shorts will soon be 3 minutes long: Here is what else is changing
HIGHLIGHTS

Starting October 15, YouTube will allow creators to upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long.

This change applies to videos that are square or taller in aspect ratio.

Videos uploaded before Oct 15 will remain unchanged.

In my free time, I often find myself scrolling through Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, searching for fun and engaging content. It’s amazing how these short videos keep us entertained. If you’re a fan of YouTube Shorts like I am, I have some news for you. YouTube has announced new updates that make creating and enjoying Shorts even more enjoyable.

Starting October 15, YouTube will allow creators to upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long. This change, requested by many creators, gives them more flexibility to tell their stories. It applies to videos that are square or taller in aspect ratio, and any videos uploaded before this date will remain unchanged. YouTube is also working on improving recommendations for these longer Shorts.

In addition to longer videos, YouTube is making it easier and more fun to create Shorts. If you come across a Short that you like, you can now easily recreate it using templates. Just tap “Remix” on a Short and select “Use this template” to put your spin on it. Soon, you’ll also be able to access a vast library of YouTube content directly from your Shorts camera, allowing you to remix clips from your favourite videos, music, and more.

Also, YouTube is launching a new Shorts trends page on mobile. This feature will help you discover what’s trending in your country. Plus, you’ll be able to preview what people are saying in comments right from the Shorts feed, so you can stay in the loop without diving into the comments section.

YouTube has also introduced an option to customise your feed. If you want to see fewer Shorts in your Home feed, you can simply click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of any Shorts grid and choose the “Show fewer Shorts” option.
