This is the first time that Google has hiked prices for YouTube Premium, ever since it was launched in 2019.

Now, the Family monthly plan will see the most hike. It will be increased by 58%.
YouTube is one of the most popular streaming apps in India and across the globe. But the annoying part is its ads. To solve that, Google introduced YouTube Premium, so that you can watch your favourite content without any ads. And now, it has announced a price hike for the same. This is the first time that Google has announced a price hike for YouTube Premium, ever since it was launched in 2019.
YouTube Premium offers some additional features that you do not get with the basic plan. This includes ad-free videos, background playback, and access to YouTube Music. Most users who do not like ads and will not compromise over it choose the Premium plan.
New YouTube Premium plans and prices
The prices for YouTube Premium have remained constant since 2019. This new price hike affects all the plans across categories. Earlier the individual monthly and annual subscriptions were priced at Rs 129 and Rs 1,290, respectively. The Family monthly plan was priced at Rs 189, and the Student monthly plan was only at Rs 89. Now, the Family monthly plan will see the most hike. It will be increased by 58%.
- Individual Monthly – Rs 149
- Family Monthly – Rs 299
- Student Monthly – Rs 89
- Individual Monthly Prepaid – Rs 159
- Individual Quarterly Prepaid – Rs 459
- Individual Annual Prepaid – Rs 1490
Speaking about the increase in the prices, YouTube said in a statement, “We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube”.
If you already use YouTube Premium, then you will get an email asking you to agree with the new pricing. If you do not agree to it, the subscription will get canceled automatically at the end of the term.
