The app will also offer parents control over the content as well as the time their children use the app
YouTube has launched a new app in India that is specifically aimed at children. Called YouTube Kids, the app available in 20 countries and is aimed at making it easier for children to find videos appropriate for them. The app is available for free on Google Play and the App Store. It will feature new learning shows from ChuChuTV and Kids TV as well as cartoons such as Cat & Keet and more. Further, the company says that app will offer guest-curated lists from educators, celebrities, trusted names and more over the coming weeks.
Malik Ducard, YouTube’s Global Head of Family and Learning said, “YouTube Kids is our first step in reimagining YouTube for families, an experience that gives you a world of video in your pockets, and a world of possibility and knowledge at your fingertips. India already has a very diverse and rapidly-growing creator base for kids and learning, with content in this category growing 100% year over year.”
The app also comes with a number of parental control options. An automated prompt will let parents limit the search function. Parents can also set a timer to limit the child’s viewing time. The app also will notify children when the session is over. Further, Parents can control the sound settings as well as set a passcode to restrict certain content. The app can be cast to a bigger screen via Chromecast, Apple TV, game consoles, or smart TVs.
