YouTube begins testing multiplayer mini-games to enhance user engagement: All details
YouTube Playables is testing multiplayer features to select games, including Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3.
The move aligns with trends seen in other platforms like Netflix and LinkedIn
The users will be able to interact and compete with friends.
YouTube is bringing new features to improve the user experience, as well as new multiplayer options for some mini-games like Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3. This follows Google-owned YouTube’s announcement that it is developing new multiplayer capabilities to strengthen its Playables feature. The tech giant intends to make it more interactive and entertaining for users to play games with others on the platform.
For those unfamiliar, the Playables feature, which was tested a year ago, will make its free portfolio of over 130 games available to all users in May 2024 after Premium members were granted access initially. There are several types of games, including action, arcade, brain and puzzle, trivia and word, racing, simulation, and sports. By adding multiplayer features, the tech giant hopes to increase user engagement and move into real-time gaming experiences along with maximising the time spent on the platform.
“We’re starting to test a new multiplayer functionality for a few specific games on YouTube Playables. Multiplayer on Playables allows you to play games in real-time with other users,” the company said in an official announcement.
YouTube Playables will become an even more alluring choice for users who are searching for new games or are spending time on the app thanks to this new feature, which will enable users to connect and compete in a more social and engaging way.
Given that other major corporations, like Netflix and LinkedIn, have also included gaming on their platforms to boost user engagement, it appears to be a popular trend. These businesses are constantly coming up with new strategies to increase user engagement and keep users on their platforms longer, which makes gaming another essential component of their content portfolio.
Given the limited popularity of these games, it is unclear if users will actually embrace YouTube Playables’ new multiplayer feature or not.
