Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly working on a secret code feature for locked chats. This feature is expected to allow users to set a custom code for their protected chat folder. It will be available in a future update of the Android app, as per the report.

According to a report by a known WhatsApp tipster publication, WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is working to introduce a new feature that will allow users to set a secret code for locked chats.

Currently, conversations that are locked are always displayed in a different section, which can only be accessed via your smartphone’s PIN or biometric authentication.

However, with the new secret code feature, users will likely be able to set a custom password for their protected chat folder.

This feature is expected to provide users with greater control over their locked conversations. When users set a personalised password for their secure chats, it separates the confidentiality of these conversations from the overall phone security. Also, even if someone manages to obtain the device password, they won’t automatically gain entry to the protected chat folder.

Overall, the secret code feature is expected to provide WhatsApp users with greater control, flexibility, and security over their locked conversations.

Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp had started testing a pinned messages feature. With this feature, users will likely be able to pin a message to the top of their chat conversations.  This will likely make it easier for users to highlight and access important or frequently referenced messages by keeping them at the top of the chat. Users are also expected to have the ability to control how long a message stays at the top of their chat. There might be three options to choose from: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. Additionally, users could unpin a message at any time, even before the chosen duration expires.
