This is being done both as a security measure as well as to improve user experience. WhatsApp has discontinued support on some old Android and iOS devices.WhatsApp’s website mentions that the app will no longer be compatible with devices that are running on Android OS versions 4.1 and older from October 24.

Now, what can you do if you’re still using one of these devices?
It seems that the only option that you have is to switch to a newer device. If you’re an Android user, go for Android OS version 5.0 and above. And if you want to use WhatsApp on an iPhone, then you’ll have to pick up a smartphone with iOS 12 and above. In the case of Linux-based keypad phones, choose KaiOS 2.5.0 and above, this includes your JioPhone and JioPhone 2 as well.

Don’t get startled just yet, WhatsApp informs that it will inform users whose devices are not compatible with the app itself and also give them reminders. If the device is still not updated or upgraded, then users might not be able to enjoy WhatsApp.
