Now, WhatsApp is rolling out passkey support on iOS.
To set up a passkey, you’ll need an iPhone 8 or later model with iOS 16 version or higher.
iPhone users of WhatsApp will no longer have to deal with the hassle of SMS-based two-factor authentication, as the Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has announced that it is rolling out passkey support on iOS. For those who are unaware, WhatsApp rolled out passkey support on Android last year.
The company made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) and said, “passkeys are rolling out now on iOS a more secure (and easier!) way to log back in with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.”

You can use Touch ID, Face ID, or your device passcode to verify it’s you with a passkey.
When you register, you can use the passkey instead of an SMS. It’s important to note that to set up a passkey, you’ll need an iPhone 8 or later model with iOS 16 version or higher.

How to create a passkey on WhatsApp
Step 1: Open the WhatsApp app.
Step 2: Go to the WhatsApp settings.
Step 3: Tap Passkeys.
Step 4: Select the Create a passkey option.
Step 5: Tap Continue.
- You may be asked to tap Use screen lock to create your passkey.
When reinstalling WhatsApp, you might encounter a prompt asking if you’d like to use the passkey you’ve previously created during registration.
