WhatsApp could soon let you make calls on your desktop
Whatsapp will soon display your call history on the desktop app
The Meta-owned tech giant may also let you make voice and video calls using your desktop app
Whatsapp has been in the news for new features like desktop screen locking, group chat polls, and its upcoming companion mode.
A recent report by WABetainfo states that Whatsapp is working on a new update that will create two display tabs on its desktop interface – one for chat and the other for calls. Users will be able to view their call history and go through the basic details of the same. WhatsApp has also recently been in the news for new features such as polls in groups and personal chats, along with its new lock screen feature for its desktop app.
Can you make calls on Whatsapp Desktop?
The integration of the calls tab on the desktop app also indicates that users will be able to make calls using their desktops. It is currently unclear whether this means users can make both voice and video calls, but the latter would be a natural progression once the feature is integrated. As a result, we may see Whatsapp enter the video calling space to compete with the likes of Zoom, Google Meets, and Skype.
The calls tab has already been rolled out for beta users and will be available to all users soon. The tab is displayed on opening the desktop version of the app, and on clicking the same, the interface loads a drop-down menu that shows you your call history.
Where does this feature fit into the grand scheme of things?
With Whatsapp all set to release companion mode, this feature will allow users to make calls using a variety of devices. Arguably, this may lead to a more efficient workflow (particularly for those who already rely on Whatsapp for communication) and may improve user experience on the whole.
Companion mode lets you link up to 4 different devices with your Whatsapp account. Though its been a while since this update was announced, there’s no indication on when it will be available for users.
