Now, it looks like WhatsApp might soon introduce a similar functionality, aiming to streamline interactions and make responding to messages even faster.

By integrating a familiar and well-received feature from Instagram, WhatsApp could potentially boost user engagement and satisfaction, making it easier for users to express their reactions in a more immediate way.

“It appears that WhatsApp is now focused on developing additional tools to make it faster for users to react to messages. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.16.7 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a double-tap reaction feature!” WABetaInfo reported.

According to the report, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to double-tap on messages to react. This feature is designed to streamline how users express their feelings in chats, making the reaction process faster and more convenient.

The double-tap reaction feature, which is slated for a future release, is expected to enable users to quickly respond to messages with a default heart emoji. This change aims to eliminate the need to open the reaction tray for the most common response, thereby speeding up communication and allowing users to stay engaged in conversations more effortlessly.

If a different emoji reaction is desired, users will also likely be able to access the reaction tray. This approach strikes a balance between efficiency and flexibility, catering to users who prefer a quicker way to react while retaining the ability to choose from a variety of emojis when needed.

Currently, WhatsApp does not plan to include an option to disable this feature, as per the report. This decision may pose some challenges for users who accidentally react to older messages while scrolling through their chat history. However, if there is significant user feedback on the need for a toggle to disable this feature, WhatsApp may consider implementing it in the future.

As of now, the double-tap reaction feature is still under development and will be available in an upcoming update, the report said. This move reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve the messaging experience, aligning with trends seen in other popular social media platforms.
