HIGHLIGHTS

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will let users transfer their chat history when they move to a new Android phone

This feature is still in development and will negate the need for backing up chats on Google Drive

It is unclear when it will be released

Back in July, WhatsApp had rolled out an update that allowed people to move chats to iOS from Android using an app known as the Move to iOS app. This meant that users could easily switch their smartphones without worrying about losing their older chats. Whatsapp is continually evolving to improve user experience, and according to WaBetaInfo, a new chat transfer option is currently under development that will let you move the entire chat history to Android devices.

What is WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature?

The new feature will help users transfer their chat history from one Android device to another one without having to first create a backup of the same on Google Drive. The new chat transfer option can be found within WhatsApp Settings > Chats in the future. All you need to do is enable the option to be able to use the feature.

It is important to note that even with this feature, it does make sense to update your chats on Google Drive so that your data doesn’t disappear due to a mishap.

When will WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature rollout?

The new chat transfer feature is said to be intended for a future update of the app. At this point, it is not clear when the update will be rolled out to the masses.
