WhatsApp has introduced new colour based text-statuses that lets users write their status with a colourful background status. The status looks a lot like the colour-based statuses recently introduced by Facebook. The feature lets users add emojis, and change the font or background colour. Users can also add links to the status. The new feature is rolling out for iPhone and Android device and should be available for all users over the coming days. The company also notes that users will now be able to view status updates on WhatsApp for the web.

“Now you never have to worry about getting the word out to all your family and friends. Whether you’re looking for vacation recommendations or notifying a group about the address for a party, the text-based status feature allows you to update your contacts in a fun and personal way. To customize text statuses, users can choose a specific font and background color, or include links,” the company states.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced a revamped version of its status feature. The feature worked in a manner similar to Snapchat and is visible for 24 hours. Users can update their status with photos, videos and GIFs. Users can also control who can see their status via WhatsApp’s privacy settings. They can also view who has seen their status update and even reply to someone else’s update.
