Users can see the contact's status update by clicking on the picture of that contact in the chat list. The report also adds that the new feature could be disabled by turning off all status updates.

Meta's WhatsApp will reportedly let users click on a contact's profile picture to see their status updates in their chat list. The report also said that you could turn off this feature by turning off all status updates in the WhatsApp for Android app. The feature could be made available to more beta testers in the coming weeks. Also, the beta version mentioned above would also come out for iOS in the future. WhatsApp has not yet officially announced when this feature will be available.
