The UPI One World wallet is a digital payment solution tailored specifically for international visitors to India.

This wallet eliminates the need for carrying cash or dealing with complex foreign exchange transactions.

In a significant development for international travellers visiting India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched the UPI One World wallet. This innovative service, initially introduced during the G20 summit last year, is now available to visitors from across the globe. Designed to enhance the payment experience for tourists, UPI One World aims to simplify transactions and enable seamless exploration of India’s diverse cultural and geographical landscape.

What Is UPI One World Wallet?

The UPI One World wallet is a digital payment solution tailored specifically for international visitors to India. This wallet eliminates the need for carrying cash or dealing with complex foreign exchange transactions.

The UPI One World wallet can be availed through authorised PPI issuers at airports, hotels, designated money exchange locations and other touchpoints, following a full KYC process based on a passport and valid visa. Once issued, visitors can load the wallet with funds either in cash or through other payment modes.

Initially introduced at the G20 summit, the UPI One World wallet is now being made available to travellers from a broader range of countries. The service is designed to facilitate real-time payments at various merchant locations, which can be completed by scanning QR codes. This functionality ensures that tourists can experience the ease of UPI payments, similar to how millions of Indians conduct their transactions daily.

It’s worth noting that any unused balance can be transferred back to the original payment source, in accordance with foreign exchange regulations.

UPI One World Wallet now available for international travellers

How to Use UPI One World Wallet

Step 1: Download the issuer app and sign in.

Step 2: Verify Documents (Passport and Valid Visa) physically at Issuer Counter.

Step 3: Issuance of UPI One World on international mobile number.

Step 4: Load INR value against the desired amount by either:

  • Exchanging foreign currency at the issuer counter with Forex experts help
  • By the mode of Credit Card or Debit Card.

Step 5: Use the preloaded INR at merchant outlets.

Step 6: Encash any remaining balance loaded by the traveller before departure
