Uber has introduced Shikara, its first water transport service in India. The new service will allow the tourist to pre-book boat rides on the Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. With this new Uber Shikara service, the company aims to cater the growing number of tourists visiting the region during the upcoming holiday season by pre-booking their rides on the application.
If you are planning a trip to Kashmir, you can reserve an Uber Shikara for up to one hour with up to four passengers 12 hours to 15 days in advance. Not only that, but Uber has promised to waive all fees for rides booked through the app in order to promote local tourism and grassroots workers. The funds will go directly to Shikara drivers, giving them more economic opportunities.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, stated, “At Uber, we are constantly striving to make mobility magical and effortless. Uber Shikara is our humble attempt to combine technology and tradition to provide travellers with a seamless Shikara ride experience. We are proud to create this iconic experience that will improve accessibility and boost tourism in Kashmir’s breathtaking landscape.”
Uber has also introduced trip insurance for travelers, which will be available for all Uber Shikara rides and cover any unforeseen circumstances.
