Uber starts Shikara service in Dal Lake: How to pre-book, fee and other details
Uber launches its first water transport service, Uber Shikara, for tourists on Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Uber Shikara rides can be pre-booked for up to one hour, accommodating up to four passengers.
Uber waives all fees on Shikara rides, with the full fare going directly to local Shikara drivers.
Uber has introduced Shikara, its first water transport service in India. The new service will allow the tourist to pre-book boat rides on the Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. With this new Uber Shikara service, the company aims to cater the growing number of tourists visiting the region during the upcoming holiday season by pre-booking their rides on the application.
If you are planning a trip to Kashmir, you can reserve an Uber Shikara for up to one hour with up to four passengers 12 hours to 15 days in advance. Not only that, but Uber has promised to waive all fees for rides booked through the app in order to promote local tourism and grassroots workers. The funds will go directly to Shikara drivers, giving them more economic opportunities.

Uber has also introduced trip insurance for travelers, which will be available for all Uber Shikara rides and cover any unforeseen circumstances.
How to book Uber Shikara ride
- Launch the most recent version of the Uber app (check the App Store or Play Store for updates).
- Choose “Shikara Ghat No 16” as the start and end locations from the “Where to” bar.
- Choose Uber Shikara.
- The time and date can only be chosen between 10 AM and 5 PM.
- Choose Uber Shikara.
- Verify the pick-up location, which is Ghat 16.
- Once you click “Book,” you are all set to enjoy the Shikara ride
