Twitter updates its mobile apps; adds better search, improved browsing
The update for Twitter for iOS and Android brings various new features including an improved search as well browsing capabilities.
Twitter has announced some updates to its iOS and Android platforms. The updates bring a slew of improvements as well some subtractions.
Twitter has modified its search results, allowing users to see more topic and suggestions for search queries, based on what’s going on in real time. The site also removed support for various video sharing services on the mobile platform.
Breaking down further, the video services getting axed are Mobypicture, Vodpod, and Posterous. Twitpic, however, is still supported, and is now the only video sharing service with support to Twitter.
Now users can see suggestions pop up when including a hashtag or username when composing a new Tweet. The autocomplete feature has already been available on Tweetbot. The suggestions pop up is only available for iOS version of the app. The update also brings more focus on top tweets in search results, and users can even see relatively old top tweets.
Twitter has rolled out a number of bug fixes and general performance enhancements. Support for Chinese language has also been added.
“We recently introduced the ability to see older Tweets in search results. Now when you search for important Twitter moments, you may see a Top Tweet separate from the rest of the results. This Tweet is the best match for your query based on relevance and engagement. To see additional Tweets from this time period, tap on “View more from this time.” Try searching for “four more years” or “deep challenge” on your phone to see an example,” says the company in a blog post.
You can download the updated Twitter for iOS from Apple’s iTunes app store and Twitter for Android from Google Play store.
