Twitter unveils ‘while you were away’ feature
Like Facebook, Twitter will now show you top tweets in your network since you last logged on to the micro blogging site.
Twitter has officially announced rolling out a new feature – 'While you were away' – that shows a recap of some of the top Tweets you might have missed from accounts you follow. The feature is currently available for iOS users, while Android app and twitter.com will receive soon.
Twitter's While you were away feature is very similar to Facebook's News Feed, and finally breaks Twitter's iconic chronological display. It's notable Twitter had already hinted that it was going to display “best” tweets from your network since you last opened Twitter.
“Our goal is to help you keep up – or catch up – with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter. With a few improvements to the home timeline we think we can do a better job of delivering on that promise without compromising the real time nature of Twitter,” says Twitter in a post.
Twitter has been tweaking its algorithm in order to explore more options to monetise its services. With Facebook now focussing on news and latest with features such as hashtags, mentions and Trending topics, Twitter is under pressure to increase its subscriber base as well as user engagement. The micro-blogging website recently added Instagram-like photo filters to push photo sharing on the network.
