Twitter to ban accounts that only promote other social media websites, among other changes
HIGHLIGHTS

Twitter has announced that it will be banning accounts that only exist to promote other social media websites.

The company also recently removed the labels that indicate which device a tweet was posted from.

Musk has also posted a poll asking users whether he should step down from his role at Twitter.

Twitter has announced that the platform will get rid of accounts that have been created just for promoting other social media platforms, as well as those that have been created just for sharing links. This move will have significant impacts on content shared from social media platforms such as Instagram, Mastodon, Facebook, Tribal, Nostr, Post, and Truth Social. It will, however, allow cross-content posting.

“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter.” said Twitter Support.

Twitter has also removed labels that promote smartphones

Twitter has also finally done away with labels that show the device the tweet was posted through. Responding to a user’s comment last month about new Twitter changes, Musk said "And we will finally stop adding what device a tweet was written on (waste of screen space & compute) below every tweet. Literally, no one even knows why we did that …"

Musk asks users if he should step down

Interestingly, Elon Musk also recently put up a poll asking users whether he should step down from his role at Twitter. “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” he tweeted, basically putting his job on the line. At the time of writing this, a majority of users have tweeted yes, with a 43.3% saying no.
