Following the launch of short-video sharing service Vine, Twitter is now set to foray into music segment as well. According to reports, ‘Twitter Music’ will be a standalone application and will be formally announced later this week. Reports regarding the Twitter Music services come close on the heels of the social networking company announcing acquisition of music discovery service We Are Hunted.
Twitter’s standalone music service is said to provide suggestions regarding artists and tracks to users based on a range of personalised signals, including on which accounts a user follows on Twitter.
The app will also feature clips of music, support for third-party services such as iTunes, Soundcloud as well as ability to watch music videos via Vevo, a music video service by Universal Music and Sony.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest recently revealed the app’s existence in a series of tweets, claiming to “lovin” the new app:
Back in March, CNET had reported Twitter was taking over the music discovery service and planned to use the service to build its own music app. CNET citing a person privy to the development said the app would be known as Twitter Music and could be out on the iOS platform by March-end.
